Fur, Eye, Ear, & Shade genes. A Reference Guide, Full listing
This list is created to help those just entering the world of bunnies. This list is not official, but the result of my own pawwork and talkign to people.

Useful information:
Each bunny has 2 genes for each trait 1 visible(primary) and 1 hidden(secondary).

Starter bunnies/packs are those purchased directly from Ozimals. These rules only apply to bunnies purchased from Ozimals.

There are three types of genes. 1. Those able to be primary in the starter packs (they can also be secondary in the starter packs) 2. Those that are only secondary in starter packs 3. Those genes that are retired from starter packs

June 28 - July 11, 2010 Special Edition Elite.

ONLY 1.3 nests KINDLED between the dates of the festival (9 am SLT on 6/28 through midnight SLT on 7/11) have a random chance of giving a Holiday Elite. Rules for normal Elites do NOT apply in this case, only that one rule.
Elite: Strawberry Festival 2010

Special ELITE Section

"Elites are rare bunnies with unique and unexpected coats. Elite bunnies are possible only on the 13th, 14th and 15th generations in the mother's breeding span. Eyes and fur on both parents must be recessive genes. Bunnies that are eating the Archetype food and still have the asterisk have a higher chance at getting an elite. - Malkavyn Eldritch "For the purposes of elites, the mother and father need to have their "primary" traits in fur and eyes be "recessive" on the overall Ozimals dominant/recessive list." Candy Cerveau

True Elites: These can only be found by breeding. This is what we have found so far.

RE: Fur and Eye genes. Full List
This is the exact list I came up with myself, so I will offer independent verification of your data.

Really nice write-up. Thank you for your work to make this information freely and easily available to the whole community.

Awesome list! Thanks Eileen Smile It's helping me a lot to understand the bunnies Smile

I was wondering about the Holland Lop - Fawn, is that a dominant or a recessive bunny in starter packs?
Couldn't find it in the list. Would love to know more about it ^_^

Missed that one in my list. It is recessive only in starter packs.

RE: Fur, Eye, Ear, & Shade genes. Full List
I am more or less brand-new to this bunny thing, and I am wondering precisely what it means that something is dominant and recessive or just recessive in the starting packs? Smile

Are only those traits that are dominant and recessive found directly in starter packs whereas those that are just recessive can be bred from starter bunnies but are never found in the starter packs?

RE: Fur, Eye, Ear, & Shade genes. Full List
In this case Dominant means visible genes. The stats you see. And Recessive means hidden genes. The stats you do not see. The only way to know what is hidden is to bred and see what you get.

Bunnies purchased from other sources can have recessive only genes - visible.

Yes to your second question. Dominant and recessive can be seen when you kindle a starter bunny. Recessive only has to be bred out of a starter bunny because it only exists as a hidden gene.

I hope this helps explain things.

RE: Fur, Eye, Ear, & Shade genes. Full List
Thanks for the list, Eileen! I'm attempting to track the genetics of my rabbits, and having a list of possible values makes validating my input for typos etc. is very useful.

A small correction: Full Lop ears are reported as "Lop Ears" in the local chat output; the other two values are correct ("Upright" and "Half-a-Lop".)

Actually, I think that's more confusing. Biggrin

Biological terms like "dominant" and "recessive" have particular meanings that may not be the same as in Ozimals Bunnies, and which may lead to incorrect assumptions. Here's my understanding of how things work, avoiding the biological terms when possible:
  • Rabbits have a set of visible traits (fur, eyes, ears, shade.) These are what you see when you look at a rabbit's statistics.
  • Starter rabbits have a limited set of visible traits.
  • Rabbits also have a set of invisible traits. These may be passed on to their offspring as visible traits, but are otherwise impossible to determine.
  • Invisible traits are independent to visible traits, but may contain the same value.
  • When you breed two rabbits, the offspring's traits will be selected from one of the parents. This may be the parent's visible or invisible trait.

Here's what I don't know for certain, but think is likely to be true:
  • Starter rabbits have a full (unlimited) set of invisible traits.
  • Some traits are more likely to be selected than others i.e. "dominant".
  • The parents of the rabbit are recorded, but not visible. (To get mutants, the breeding rabbits must be siblings - i.e. the same parents - so this must be recorded somewhere.)

Wild guesses that might be true:
  • There is a small chance that a trait will be selected at random i.e. not inherited from either parents' visible or invisible traits. Elites are a special case (a "wrapper" over a normal bunny.)
  • Selection of traits may be biased towards one or other parent.

Feel free to correct any mistakes, particularly if you have inside knowledge of how the genetics works.

Ozimals uses numerous meanings for recessive and dominant. This list is explicitly only covering starter pack and non-starter-pack. Ozimals has used the terms dominant and recessive in terms of what is seen and what is not seen on starter pack bunnies, so I am using it here.

Per the information offered from Ozimals this should not be possible. The only genes a bunny can have are from its parents.

I do not believe that the selection of traits is biased towards either parent.
